Vector’s Teslim: The Energy Still Lives In Me is a breath of fresh air in a time of oversaturated music releases. In fact, it is considered one of the best Music Friday release for that week MLLE dropped.

But most importantly, it reignites the question: Is VEC a rap legend in Nigeria?

Well, that’s not a simple call to make. Vector has been actively involved in the industry, dropping projects and spearheading the Hennessy VS Class, building and packaging the next generation of rap artists in the country and continent.

However, he blanches in comparison to class acts like Mode 9, Olamide, or MI Abaga. The clout those guys have over him is their discography. Beyond that, Vector can stand toe-to-toe with them.

Vector has been working on and hinted at the Teslim album for a long time. In 2019, he released the prequel Vibes Before Teslim: The Journey to Self-Discovery, which was the polar opposite of MI Abaga’s Yung Denzl: A Study On Self-Worth.

Teslim: The Energy Still Lives In Me tracklist

Teslim: The Energy Still Lives In Me is consistent with Vector’s ethos as a bold rapper aware of his prolific pen game and knows how to relay it to the audience. It opens with ‘Teslim Introduction’, an interview session where he talks about the lessons he’s learned through interpersonal relationships and as a rapper.

We see the signature Vector on ‘Why Me’ and ‘Soki Sombolo’ where he croons and laces some punchlines.

However, the project’s high point came when he employed Ladipoe on ‘Clowns’ and Seun Kuti on ‘Wami Wota (Iyemoja)’. Popular singles like ‘Early Momo’ and ‘Mama Maradona’ also find their place in the album.

While this project’s commercial appeal is low, it has a great replay value, making it a worthwhile listen.
